Senior Resources
On this page, you fill find resources specific to Senior level of hockey in New Brunswick.
In New Brunswick, Senior is regulated by the Hockey New Brunswick through the Senior Council. For Senior level hockey you should make sure you are familiar with:

- Each Senior League’s Constitution
Remember that Hockey Canada’s rules are used as the base, HNB’s rules can increase or add further regulations and each league can further add. It’s important to make sure you’ve reviewed all applicable resources before getting on games.
Procedures Used
For Senior Men’s, the 4-official system is used. For Senior Women’s, the 3-official (1 referee, 2 linespersons) system is used. Please ensure you review and feel comfortable for the Altercation/Fight Procedure.
Game Sheets
Game sheets in Senior vary by the league. Some leagues use standard paper game sheets, others have moved to the Gamesheet Inc iPad app.
If the league does use the iPad app please make sure after the game is complete you review the gamesheet closely before signing. There is an option within the app to email yourself a copy of the gamesheet should you need to submit a GIR. Do NOT submit GIRs through the gamesheet app.
Game Incident Reports (GIRs)
All Game Incident Reports (GIRs) for Senior hockey MUST be submitted through Goalline. Do NOT use spreadsheet/email for submitting these reports. They MUST be submitted within 24 hours of the game.

Key Senior Rules
If you officiate Senior Hockey (4 leagues in NB), please ensure you understand the various Senior specific rules:
- Rule 3.9 – Jersey Tie-Down
- Required for all Senior Players. It is called under 10.6 (a) – Illegal Equipment if the player continues to Fight after Jersey comes over shoulder blades during Fight.
- When using half-visor in Senior Men’s Hockey, please note mouthguards are Mandatory under HNB’s guidelines. This falls within rule 3.6 (g) of our Hockey Canada rulebook. Please contact your assigning RIC if you have questions about this rule enforcement.
- Rule 6.4 Face-Off Violation (Location)
- “In Junior and Senior divisions, where a face-off is occurring in the end-zone, following the calling of an icing or a time penalty, the attacking (non-offending) team will have the authority to choose the face-off location.
The attacking team must indicate their desired face-off location to the Referee prior to the start of the line change procedure. If they fail to do so, then the face-off will take place at the location prescribed by Rule 6.3 – Face-off Location.”
- “In Junior and Senior divisions, where a face-off is occurring in the end-zone, following the calling of an icing or a time penalty, the attacking (non-offending) team will have the authority to choose the face-off location.
- Rule 6.10 (d) – High-Sticking the Puck:
- For regular high-sticking of the puck, the normal height of Shoulders is used – 6.10 (a) note 1.
- For High-sticking the puck into the Net, the Crossbar is used – 6.10 (d) and interpretation 1.
- Rule 9.5 – High-Sticking:
- The Senior league does not fall under head contact rules for high sticking penalties. It is simply a minor or double minor for an accidental high stick with minimal injury, ie: cut.
- There is no Major or Match penalty for high-sticking. If you read rules 9.5 (b) & (c), it explains what to call if any high-sticking infraction would warrant a major or match penalty. These are covered under Rule 7.7 (b) Head Contact.
