Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

For any official 18 years old or older, HNB requires a valid Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) to be on file. If you are turning 18 during the season, you will also need to ensure you have a valid CRC/VSC on file.

How to View Your Background Check/Vulnerable Sector Check Expiry Dates

1. Go to https://register.hockeycanada.ca/home

2. Click on Login in the top right corner.

3. Once you have logged, click “Members” from the left-hand side of your dashboard screen.

4. On the Members screen make sure you are on the profile that you Linked (see How to Link a Member in the Hockey Canada Registry). You will see the association(s) that you are a part of. Click “View Profile”.

 5. On your Profile page, you will see the Background Check badge. If it is Red, it means your background check has expired/you do not have one in the system. If the badge is green, please make sure to hover over the badge to see the Expiry date.

If you see that your CRC/VSC has expired or will expire before May 1st, 2025 please go to the resource page to get the letter to request a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check from your local police/RCMP department and submit it to your association RIC or zone director.

Why Do We Need These?

CRC/VSC are an important way to ensure the safety of all participants.

Can I Officiate Without These?

No, all officials aged 18 and over must have a valid CRC/VSC on record before they can be on the ice.

What Does “Valid” Mean and When Do They Expire?

CRC/VSC’s expire every 3 years. If yours is showing an expiry date before December 31st, you will need to get a new CRC/VSC completed.

Where Do I Send My CRC/VSC?

It needs to be submitted to your local RIC. If you are a new official 18 and older and aren’t sure who to contact, we recommend contacting your local minor hockey association or one of our zone officiating directors.
